When the British Regulars marched out of Boston to Lexington and Concord on 19 April 1775, alarm riders rode out, alerting the surrounding towns and calling them to arms. Many groups of Militiamen, like Acton and Sudbury, marched to Concord to help protect the town from the approaching British troops, firing muskets along the way to wake and alert their fellow patriots that it was time to gather arms.
